HISTORY

Neurosurgical Specialist, Inc. was established in 1980 as a professional corporation dedicated to the treatment of neurosurgical conditions of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. The practice specializes in adult neurosurgery and utilizes the latest state of the art techniques, including micro-neurosurgery, laser surgery, and stereo tactic surgery.

Currently, the practice consist of five neurosurgeons, as well as additional supporting staff. Four of our surgeons are board certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery. In addition, each physician
participates in continuing medical education programs to keep their
qualifications at the state of the art level. Neurosurgical training was
completed by Doctor Robert A. Rashti at the University of Maryland, Doctor David C. Waters at the University of Michigan, Doctor Jonathan P. Partington at Yale University, Doctor Grant A. Skidmore at the University of Arkansas, and Doctor Joseph L. Koen at Duke University Medical
Center.

We are proud of the excellent reputation which our physicians have
obtained during their years of service in the community. The practice
philosophy has been utilize a conservative approach to neurosurgical
problems where medically appropriate, reserving surgical decisions for those patients whose problems do not respond to medical management or whose condition requires a more definitive approach. Each of our physicians will be considered your primary neurosurgeon, you will derive the benefit of their "team" approach, which results from their daily communication with each other about each patient. Each member of the team will participate in your care at sometime during a hospitalization.
